Unknown Telugu historian
D P Anuradha
Hello, dear readers!
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your day. Today, I want to share with you something that I found very fascinating and enlightening. It is about a book that I recently read, which is about the history and culture of our beloved Telugu language and people.
As you know, Telugu is one of the oldest and richest languages in India, with a history that goes back to over two thousand years. We Telugus have a proud and glorious heritage, which we have inherited from our ancestors who excelled in various fields of knowledge, culture, art, literature and politics. They spread their influence and civilization across India and beyond, leaving their mark on many countries and regions.
But how much do we really know about our past? How much do we appreciate and celebrate our achievements? How much do we learn from our mistakes and failures? Sadly, not much. Many of us are ignorant or indifferent about our history and heritage. We take it for granted or forget it altogether. We are more interested in the present or the future, or in other cultures and languages. This is where we need the help of Telugu historians, who are the custodians of our memory and identity.
One such historian is DP Anuradha, a journalist and a writer who has devoted her life to exploring the Telugu roots in Southeast Asia. She has travelled to countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia, where she has discovered the traces of Telugu culture, language, art, architecture, inscriptions and names. She has collected and presented these evidences in her book Jagamunelina Telugu: Godavari Nunchi Java Daka (Telugu Across the World: From Godavari to Java), which is a historical novel based on her findings. She is the recepient of " Thapi Dharmarao-award " too for her research on Telugu race history.
The book tells the story of Suryavarma, a Telugu man who travels across different countries and different times to learn about the Telugu heritage. He meets various historical figures like Sri Krishna Deva Raya, Nannaya Bhattaraka, Harihara Raya, Gajapati Kapilendra Deva, Raja Raja Chola, Rajendra Chola, Parameswara, Hayam Wuruk and many others. He also witnesses the rise and fall of Telugu kingdoms like Kalinga, Vengi, Chalukya, Kakatiya, Vijayanagara and others. He also encounters a mysterious woman named Amrutha who becomes his love interest.
The book is not just a dry narration of facts and dates. It is a lively and engaging story that blends history and imagination. The author has used various sources like sculptures, paintings, monuments, temples, stupas, caves, coins, manuscripts and oral traditions to recreate the past. She has also used poetic language and literary devices to make the story interesting and appealing. The book is a tribute to the Telugu spirit and pride that has survived through centuries.
The book is published by Telugujathi Trust, an organization that works for the promotion and preservation of Telugu language and culture. The book was first serialized in , a monthly magazine edited by Dr Samala Ramesh Babu. The book has received positive reviews from critics and readers alike. It has also been appreciated by eminent personalities like K Srinivas (editor of Andhra Jyothi), Dr Govindaraju Chakradhar (historian) and Akella Raghavendra (writer).

The book is a must-read for anyone who wants to know more about the Telugu history and heritage. It is also a source of inspiration for young Telugu people who want to follow their dreams and passions. The book is available at all Navodaya book stores and online platforms.
