90 Days Challenge
90 Days Challenge And Develop a Calloused Mindset
Do you want to achieve your goals in a short period of time? Do you want to become stronger mentally and physically? Do you want to overcome your fears and limitations? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might want to consider taking on a 90 days challenge and developing a calloused mindset.
In this blog post, I will explain what these two concepts mean and how they can help you transform your life. I will also share with you the inspirational story of David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL and ultra-marathon runner who has used these principles to become one of the fittest men on Earth.
What is a 90 Days Challenge?
A 90 days challenge is a popular way of setting and achieving personal or professional goals in a short period of time. It can help you to focus, stay motivated, and track your progress. Some examples of 90 days challenges are:
Losing weight
Learning a new skill
Reading more books
Starting a business
The idea behind a 90 days challenge is to break down your big goal into smaller and more manageable steps that you can accomplish in 90 days or less. By doing so, you will create momentum, build confidence, and see results faster.
To start a 90 days challenge, you need to:
Choose a specific and measurable goal that you want to achieve in 90 days
Break down your goal into weekly and daily tasks that will help you get closer to your goal
Create a plan and a schedule for completing your tasks
Track your progress and celebrate your achievements along the way
Review your results and adjust your plan if needed
A 90 days challenge can be a powerful way to kickstart your success and make positive changes in your life. However, it is not enough to just set a goal and follow a plan. You also need to have the right mindset to overcome the challenges and obstacles that you will inevitably face along the way.
What is a Calloused Mindset?
A calloused mindset is a term coined by David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL and USAF Tactical Air Control Party member who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is also a world-renowned ultramarathon runner and triathlete. But what makes David so remarkable isn’t just his accomplishments in the military or the fitness world; it’s his incredible story of overcoming adversity.
David Goggins defines a calloused mindset as “the ability to overcome pain, fear, doubt, and insecurity and achieve your full potential”. Callousing your mind means you have to intentionally expose yourself to discomfort and pain. Over time, a callus will develop on your mind, then the discomfort will lessen and the pain will fade away. Furthermore, the mind can also be trained to love pain — and no, not in a masochistic way.
One of the ways to develop a calloused mindset is to take on a 90 days challenge that pushes you out of your comfort zone and tests your limits. By doing so, you will learn to overcome obstacles, face your fears, and grow stronger mentally and physically. You will also discover new things about yourself and what you are capable of.
The Inspirational Story of David Goggins
David Goggins’ beginnings were challenging, starting in the home. He endured a violent and controlling father, a family divorce, and poverty, all by the age of 8 years old. These adversities ended up manifesting as problems such as memory and attention issues as well as a stutter.
Despite having a rough home life in his youth, David had longed for a fresh start after he moved to Indiana with his mother and brother. He longed for a place where he felt safe. Nevertheless, Goggins did not anticipate the pain he would suffer during his first days at school, where he would eventually get bullied because of his unique appearance, and because he didn’t know how to read.
Goggins didn’t appreciate the bullying, and as a result, he began skipping classes in order to escape the ridicule that was constantly lobbed at him by his classmates. Needless to say, Goggin’s youth was not filled with sunshine and rainbows. It was a very tough and challenging way to grow up.
Fortunately, those hardships didn’t break him, and instead made him stronger in the long run. Once Goggins completed his schooling, he gave the military a shot. Unfortunately, after a failed attempt to join the Air Force’s as an elite pararescue team member due to sickle cell anemia, he became defeated for a very long time.
But, Goggins persisted. Despite the diagnosis, he refused to give up. “I wanted to feel something besides defeat. I wanted to just go the distance,” David said. Eventually, he made his way into the Air Force, but as part of a different squad. This time around he made the cut to become part of the United States Air Force Tactical Control Party. But after a servicing for 5 years, he left the Air Force.
After his 5 year stint in the Air Force, David found himself barely able to make ends meet. He worked as an exterminator, ate tons of junk food, and gained lots of weight. David’s life started to spiral in a downward direction and he began living an uninspired life.
Fortunately, David watched a documentary about the Navy SEALS one day, and found something to be inspired by. He saw these men as the ‘hardest people on the planet’. He decided to join them and become one of them. However, there was one problem: he weighed 300 pounds and had only three months to lose 106 pounds and meet the Navy SEALs’ weight requirement.
David Goggins did not let this stop him. He started to exercise rigorously, running and biking for hours every day. He also changed his diet, cutting out all the junk food and eating only healthy foods. He pushed himself beyond his limits, ignoring the pain and exhaustion. He was determined to achieve his goal.
And he did. In three months, he lost 106 pounds and qualified for the Navy SEALs training program. He was one step closer to becoming one of the hardest men on Earth.
But his journey was far from over. He still had to endure the grueling training program that is known for its high dropout rate and extreme physical and mental demands. He had to face obstacles such as Hell Week, a five-day ordeal that involves running more than 200 miles, doing more than 1,000 push-ups a day, and sleeping only four hours in total.
Goggins did not give up. He used his calloused mindset to overcome the pain, fear, doubt, and insecurity that plagued him during the training. He reminded himself of why he was doing this and what he had gone through to get there. He refused to quit or let anyone else tell him he couldn’t do it.
He made it through the training and became a Navy SEAL. He was one of the hardest men on Earth.
But he didn’t stop there. He wanted to challenge himself even more and test his limits even further. He decided to take on ultra-marathons and triathlons, some of the most demanding endurance events in the world.
He ran races such as the Badwater 135, a 135-mile run across Death Valley in temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit; the Ultraman World Championships, a three-day, 320-mile triathlon; and the Leadville Trail 100 Run, a 100-mile run through the Rocky Mountains at elevations ranging from 9,200 to 12,600 feet.
He also set records in events such as the Guinness World Record for pull-ups in 24 hours (4,030) and the Guinness World Record for most miles run on a treadmill in 12 hours (101.5).
He did all this while still serving in the military and going on multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
David Goggins is a living example of what a human being can achieve with a calloused mindset and a relentless pursuit of excellence. His story is an inspiration to anyone who wants to overcome their challenges and reach their full potential.
